The Alliance 8.7 is involved in regional consultations around the world to ensure that a diverse range of views shape the design and dynamics of its structure. The High-level Consultation for selected countries of Europe and Central Asia was held on 29-30 June, Budapest, Hungary. The event counted with the participation of high level decision makers from governments, confederations of employers and industrials, trade unions, diplomatic missions, civil society organizations and academics from Albania, Belarus, France, Georgia, Great Britain, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Serbia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan, including the presence of Mr. István Íjgyártó, State Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Government of Hungary and Mr. Heinz Koller, Assistant Director General of the ILO and Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia. Representations from several international non-governmental organizations and inter-governmental organizations (European Commission, UNICEF, the OHCHR, UNHCR, FAO, UNODC, IOM, etc.) were also present.

Nearly 21 million people globally are victims of forced labour. 5.5 million Of them are children. Some 168 million children are in child labour, about half in its worst forms, primarily hazardous work. Alliance 8.7 is an inclusive global partnership platform led by the International Labour Organization working to assist all UN member States to realize Target 8.7 of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. This implies eradicating forced labour, modern slavery and human trafficking by 2030; as well as securing the prohibition and elimination of the worst forms of child labor (including recruitment and use of child soldiers), and ending child labor in all its forms by 2025. The Alliance 8.7 is open to governments, workers’ and employers’ organizations, inter-governmental bodies, civil society organizations, private sector organizations, academic and research institutions, which are either actively implementing programs contributing towards Target 8.7 or committed to achieve it. The Alliance helps stakeholders to coordinate their efforts, share knowledge and cooperate to achieve measurable progress towards SDG target 8.7 on a regional and global levels, focusing on the following areas:
