Facts and Statics
· Around 21 million people worldwide are victims of forced labour.
· 168 million children are engaged in child labour, almost half of them in its worst forms, mainly in hazardous work. 100 million of them are male and 68 million female.
· It is believed that US$150 billion profits are generated through child labour.
· 85 million (more than half the boys and girls engaged in child labour) do hazardous work.
· 120 million are under 14 years old. This means that 1 in 10 children and adolescents aged between 5 and 14 are involved in this situation.
· 98 million (59%) work in the agricultural sector.
· 54 million work in the sector of services.
· 12 million work in the industrial sector.
· 11% of the children between 5 and 17 years of age and 10% of the ones between 5 and 14 are engaged in child labour.
· In 2012 the number of children engaged in child labour had been reduced by almost a third, as compared to the year 2000; almost 70 million fewer child laborers.
· In 2012 there were 12.5 million children and adolescents aged between 5 and 17 engaged in child labour. 9.6 millones of them performed hazardous work.
