Director-General - International Labour Organization
Guy Ryder has been Director-General of the ILO since 2012 and was re-elected for a second term in November 2016. Since 1985, he has served as Secretary General of the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE) in Geneva. In 1988, he was Assistant to the Director and - since 1993 - Director of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU) office in Geneva. Guy Ryder first joined the ILO in 1998, as Director of the Bureau for Workers' Activities and, since 1999, as Director of the Office of the Director-General. In 2002, he was appointed General Secretary of the ICFTU and in 2006 he was elected first General Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC). In September 2010, Guy Ryder returned to ILO headquarters as Executive Director, responsible for international labour standards and fundamental principles and rights at work.
